Keep Me Kickin' Pottery

Wild Clay Adventures
I finally got around to washing and waxing the wild clay vessels that we pit fired in November. These are all made from clay I harvested and processed from our cove, and then threw on the kickwheel before pit firing. Chemistry and ancient arts are both pretty amazing- what started as a gross smelly gray lump of clay gathered out in the clam flats comes these beautiful reds and blacks after firing.

These represent a big milestone for me up here. I knew when we bought the property and discovered the abundance of clay that it held something special for me, and I vowed to learn how to make something from it. I signed up for some pottery classes, asked a ton of questions of my amazing teacher, and quickly fell in love with making pottery within the safety of the greatest community of potters I ever could’ve hoped to find. It’s a bit of a full circle moment right now and I’m a bit in love all over again!
